Thank you sooo much everybody!!

You ALL helped!!..
I copied the links you all sent, I then pasted them in an email and sent them to my Mum..
She read them, she then gave me a hug and said she really does understand and that she sees it daily..

I explained to her that I think her concern is that I'm going to be completely inactive and not follow the 'plan' and that I will just give up and get worse and just take painkillers..
I explained to her that just because I don't talk about it doesnt mean I don't have a plan and goals set in motion, I explained that I DO have goals and a plan..
My plan was to wait until my Access worker got back from holidays and then set up an appointment with her, I would then get an activity plan made up with her and keep a diary of it..
I love the repor and relationship I have with my Access worker (physio etc..) she is really understanding and compassionate and has said she sees great strength and courage in me, she said she knows I am very determined..
(I don't know why Mum didn't hear THAT! Haha)..
I was then going to book in to see another Pain specialist and look in to injections and blocks etc..
I am then going to start swimming when my Victims of Crime reward comes through so I can join up to hydro and core fitness..
I have many goals and plans set up, it's just a matter of waiting until after the holidays when everyone returns to work!
Then I can get the wheels in motion.
She seemed surprised I had so much planned, she said she is happy as long as I have a plan and don't just go back to resting 24/7!..
I said I have no intention of being bedridden for life, I want to be active but it HAS TO BE slowly..
She said she understands..

Thank you so much for all your support and help, those links really did help!!
I think it opened her eyes, I think sometimes she forgets..
Because I am so happy and positive, I'm always laughing and smiling, I always downplay things and makes jokes and make light if everything..
I always say 'well you may as well laugh about it, no point crying!'
So I think she forgets that I am going through hell, my shell is smiling but my core is crying..

Thanks again, you are all amazing!!!!

Hi Kim,

I am so happy that you have all these plans in place. It all sounds so positive and I bet you can't wait to get started! Remember - baby steps and don't be discouraged if you have a set back somewhere along the way. I had a few and, at first, I thought it was so bad etc., but I learnt that you actually can recover from any setback quite quickly when you learn how. Everyone is different, so your "method" will be different to others.

Good luck and please keep us posted if you can. We will all be waiting to see how you are going. I am positive that you will do well.

Mary

Great news Kim.

I agree with Mary. Baby steps to start with and you will achieve more. Also, please try to accept that what you have today, you may have to live with for the rest of your life. That does not mean you will be as debilitated for the rest of your life. Once you learn how to effectively 'self-manage' your pain condition, you will be able to achieve so many more things.

You are young and have a long life to live, so take it slow and give yourself a chance to reach your goals. Oh, and also cut yourself some slack if you take one step forward and two back. Sometimes this happens when we are taking forward steps, but it soon stops happening. You will always have a bad day turn up, so don't be put off by them either. Just be at peace with yourself and your condition. Listen to your body, be guided by it, but always ask just a smidgen more than your body tells you that it can handle. That way you will always progress.

I reckon you will do okay, especially knowing you have some good solid plans for the future.

Well done!

Peter

That's great news Kim and glad the links were helpful for your mum too. Is there a pain psychologist attached to the pain clinic? I found a psychologist who specialises in chronic pain really helpful especially in conjunction with the activity plan cos he taught me about being flexible and compassionate to myself while negotiating baby steps in building up activity. He also helped me with the effects CP had had on my relationships.

All the best,
Fee
