Out of the blue my wife came up to me today and apologised, I looked at her dumb founded and asked what for, her reply to me was, she thought I was being mean because I would hide away when we had a house full of kids, now she can understand what medication and pain can do. She has had back problems from an early stage in her life when she fell down a flight of concrete stairs, she had to learn to walk again, for years now the pain comes and goes and has not really bothered her until recently. She is now taking endone when the pain gets too much and finds loud noises and screaming kids really get on her nerves and she herself has to take herself away to escape, she is feeling guilty because she thought it was me and also she loves kids and now has less tolerance and that is hard for her to swallow.
Even though I explained how I felt all these years and I thought she understood, seems the saying until the shoe is on the other foot is when they truly understand.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful story with us Don.
You are so right about that...if only they could invent a 'feel-my-pain' machine for others to have a turn at...especially bean counters and politicians...well; we would have a very differently run health system!!
