I’m in Sydney, so if anyone is from Sydney I’d love to hear via inbox about a good Neurosurgeon.
I’ve been reading different posts all afternoon and it’s good to know that there are people in the same boat as myself.

I feel for everyone, and I am so glad I found this site.

Hi Cin
Welcome, I am glad that you are already finding the site to be of help. Through the sharing of experiences and support we make our journey with Chronic Pain easier.

I have a herniated disc at L4/5 and was prescribed physio, rest and anti-inflammatories which is the recommended method to deal with bulges or herniations. I hope that you respond to this treatment, I didn't. The next step is the specialist but it doesn't hurt (actually it does lol) to see if you respond to treatment I believe alot do.

Hi Wendles,
Yeah I have started with the physio and so far I really don’t see any significant change in pain levels, still the same.
What steps did you take next?

Hi Cin
I was already suffering several injuries before I herniated my discs so was already on Lyrica, Endep and Topamax but was put on an anti-inflammatory, pannadene forte and vallium. Rest, physio and medication did help especially going to the heated pool to do physio. But with so many other injuries adding to the strain on my body and against the herniated disc it couldn't cope. Then I moved onto the specialist path, for that was a little easy as I already had a specialist in my collection of 'support team'. So next was a nerve block in the hope that it would reset my nerves - no go. Next a ketamine treatment to hopefully reset all the spine but I reacted badly to it. Next would likely be a surgery but this is not an option for me for many reasons. That leaves me with my very last option a stimulator implant. I haven't played this card yet.
Everyone's plan differs as our injuries and medical history affects it but I can advise that you ask questions, arm yourself with knowledge and don't make any choices that you are not comfortable with.
Hope that helps

Hi Cin,
Harpy here, my life of pain started in feb 1992 from me having fun on my quad, anyway I herniated my L5/S1 the sciatica that was instant from that was hell. After a few years of this I was finally sent to a neurosurgeon who promptly organised a injection into the area. It was heaven, instant fix. I ended up with 8 of these over the next few years as the relief got less and then no relief. I was to have a spine stimulation device inserted in 2010 but because I had had cancer within the last two years I was Dropped from that idea.
Now I have from L3to S1 bone on bone calcified and fusing together, which is hell on earth pain wise. I was seeing a great physio every week who was a great help but the relief was never long enough. Do the home exercises they set out
, it’s bloody hard but it helps.
That’s enough for that but good luck
Harpy
