hiya, Ive had this happen on more than one occasion, like Peter suggested, I only give out the info needed and if any comments arise, I very quickly state that I have a pain specialist and very good gp whom manage my medications - thanks anyway
but recently - I have had so many people, randoms, friends and others whom have all decided to give me their opinion of the latest cure and treatments from hydrogen therapy to a concoction of juices to manage the pain! seriously do they think that I haven't tried everything well before I am where I am today, and whilst some of the latest cures and treatments sound enticing.. I am sure that they are just money spinners and fads - really wouldn't the pain specialist know about it if it will cure chronic pain?
I suppose I should have put this on a venting page, but it seemed to fit here initially, before I began to rant... sorry

So very sorry this has happened to you Myalgic. Yes it truly angers me, unless they know the road we've been down they have no right to judge. Astounds me people don't stop and think, of course we've tried everything, meds are not our first option. But i guess the ones whom abuse them make us all look bad.
Hold ur head high x

The ONLY med I disclose to “other” medical practitioners is my Thyroxiene for my Hoshimotos,
Because that can have an impact on so many things, my Dentist knows most, but then he is awesome and totally gets the whole jaw issue.

But as far as Optomotrist nope, I discolse the Thyroxine and that’s it.
Sadly too many people think they have the right to judge our meds, and especially with codiene and the like becomming the “big bad” I keep it to myself, unless absolutely necessary.

It sucks. I agree with Vicki, hold your head high.

I know exactly where you're coming from, sadly. At least these days, my daughter is now supportive of me. For a while, she was extremely anti any medication, purely becasue it was medication. She also deals with people who have addiction issues and people who deliberatly misuse medications ona daily basis, so her opinions were coloured by her interactions with these people, (some of which were quite frightening for her as some people become very aggressive towards health care workers), but when she saw how very ill I became after being put on Lyrica, Cymbalta and Palexia, because my GP, (initially), was scared off perscribing me low dose oxycontin, she soon changed her tune. Now, she has a better understanding of my illnesses, (*sigh* lots of the damn things, annoyingly), and she told me today that she was proud of me, which gave me such a boost, I can't articulate how happy I was! Unconnected to the current topic I know, but a recent scam, (in my opinion), is the one telling cancer patients that frozen lemons can cure cancer...I mean, waht a load of....you know. I agree with you completely. The only ones to trust when it come to a breakthrough in pain management is a reputable pain specialist, not a bunch of snake oil sellers, with dubious claims and fancy adverts.

Hi, Vicki...
This episode wasn't the first time I've felt villified for being a persistent pain person, but it was the one that broke the proverbial camel's back. Just so sick of it. And I believe you're dead right...the minority of people who wilfully abuse perscription drugs have given the rest of us a bad image. However, the fault isn't entirely theirs; a large portion of blame for the way we're treated is to go to the media and certain anti drug, pro pain lobby groups. That, and the ignorance of the masses that are spoon fed opinion pieces by news corporations, and who are too lazy to do a little fact checking, before they form their opinion. The glaringly simple solution to this prejudice is for the minority that abuse to be affectively treated for their addictions, instead of simply handing them a few pills at a chemist every day. Oh, and to make a clear defintion between a person who uses medication to enjoy a basic quality of life that most people take for granted and those that abuse perscription meds for fun or who are otherwise addicted.

Hi, Mango...
yes, I'm holding my head high. I know that, along with everyone here, we are a particularly strong bunch of people. We have to be. Wish that we didn't have to be, but you know, if wishes came true and all that. The upscaling of codeine is a really dumb idea, but just because something's dumb, doesn't mean our leaders and legislators won't do it. In fact, it's more likely that they will do it. I worry that now they've managed to restrict codeine further, that next they'll set their sights on oxycontin and endone and we'll witness even more chronic pain people thrown into prolonged periods of uncontrolled pain, depression and sucicidal thoughts, (I'm real good at parties. My joyful outlook on life brightens any room). From now on though, I am not going to disclose anything to anyone, unless, as Peter said, they need to do something to me that requires that knowledge. Actually looking forward to meeting the next person who feels they have to tell me how addicted I am. Itching to use the, 'talk to the hand', gesture.

take care xx
