Hey

So I’ve just had a lumbar spinal fusion L4-S1 and a few other things and just wanted to check on some symptoms I am having. I’ll be 3 weeks post op tomorrow.

So my back pain is fairly normal and consistent and gets worse and better depending on how much I do/as meds wear off.

But my leg pain is not consistent and seems to be getting worse. Did anyone find this to be the case for them and is it just a normal part of the long road to recovery? It seems to all be nerve related.

The specific symptoms are tingling feet, pins and needles in my feet, burning pain in my feet, really severe burning pain all the way down my legs and a general strange sensation in my legs and feet. It can happen to one, then the other or both at the same time. It doesn’t seem to get better or worse spending on how much I do but it does get worse when I lie down.

I guess I just want to know if this has happened to others after this sort of surgery and how long it continued for you?

Hi Ange,
Nerve pain can happen after a spinal fusion. But Please ring your Specialist's secretary and let her know what's going on, as she can talk to Specialist and he can decipher whether it's normal for you. Better to be on the cautious side so early in. Let us know what he thinks.
Vicki :)

Thanks Vicki. The nerve pain is still happening and if anything is getting worse. So I have to call my surgeon’s room tomorrow anyway so I will let them know what is going on. I am just praying that he doesn’t ask me to go back to hospital to do some more investigations. I’m scared he might just cause it is still so soon after my surgery and my surgery ended up a little more complicated than normal.
Anyway, I’ll let them know in the morning.
Thanks again
Ange

It’s been three years since I had my last spinal fusion. I have no idea if it was a success ... I was in pain before and I’m still in pain now but different .. sciatica in the riight left .. off and on .. comes and goes .. but the burning pain in my left foot ... aaaargh. I feel like dealing with it with an axe ... intense burning ... grrrrrrr

I have been attending physio followed by gym stretching exercises 3 times a week ... each time feels like the 1st time ...

Ange I hope you have a better time than I have ..

Oh Michael, that isn’t nice pain at all. I know all about the burning pain and can’t even begin to imagine how hard it would be 3 years after surgery that was hopefully going to fix some of the issues. I’m always here if you want to talk or vent.

Thanks for checking back in with me Vicki. I called my surgeon’s rooms on Friday about a couple of things and mentioned the pain. My surgeon contacted me back after about 10mins and we decided to give it another week. So I’m booked in to see him on Thursday for a catch up. The pain is still annoying me a lot and certainly isn’t any better. I’ll update you after my appt on Thursday.
