Sparkles created the topic: Advice please - wrist denervation
Hi. I'm new to this forum. I'm desperate for help. I have chronic pain in my wrist after I broke my it in 3 places last year. I have had chronic pain in my wrist for the past 8 months and I'm now contemplating a radical wrist denervation - cutting 4 nerves - to stop the pain messages getting through. I have been reffered to a pain clinic but I don't want to take the toxic medications. I have already tried 2 medications - Lyrica and Deptran and they didn't work. I take Penadine Forte on a daily basis which only dulls the pain. Has anyone had a wrist denervation? Did it work? Did it stop the pain? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sparkles,

Welcome to the CPA Forum.

Gosh that sounds like a drastic thing to do to get rid of pain. I take it you have done all the physio and other therapies, plus got a second opinion?
Also, this pain clinic. Are you just going to see a pain specialist and nothing else?

Have you been to a multidisciplinary pain clinic before?
These clinics go for some weeks a few hours a day and they teach you how to self manage your pain condition. They also do this with the intention of helping you stabilise or reduce your medication intake. The ones that are covered by Medicare are in public hospitals, so you should ask your GP to refer you to one in your area. They can have a waiting list though, so you should be prepared for that.

Not sure we can help you with this one, because I have not heard of it before. However, one of our members might have heard of someone else having this procedure.
Whatever the case, I hope it is a successful one and you still have use of your hand and wrist afterwards, with little to no pain.

Peter, thank you for your speedy reply. I joined your forum because I can not find a forum for my specific problem. I'm hopeful that someone might have some advice. My surgeon has diagnosed CRPS - Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I have had experience with medications that have side effects. I was diagnosed with PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome - 5 years ago and have been on a medication/therapy roundabout since my diagnosis. I haven't been to a pain clinic and I'm not sure what they will suggest. Like anyone with chronic pain I just want the pain to stop and surgery seems like a quick answer. My job means I have to do a lot of typing and typing causes me a lot of pain. I'm desperate for a way to stop the pain. I hope someone on your forum can give me some advice. I'm not sure where else to go for advice.

Hi Sparkles,

We have a thread on CRPS: www.chronicpainaustralia.org.au/index.ph...and-my-virtual-world
Got a few members who suffer it too. You should have included that in your original post, because that would have been more of a clue. CRPS is a rotten pain condition and like most chronic pain conditions, it can be hard to treat. Unfortunately you have to go through the hard miles to find what will help you, but the best thing you can do is find a health prof who knows a bit about it.

Most of us here have had pain for a long time. Some of us have learned to live with it, but it is always difficult.

I hope you get the relief you need so you can keep working.
