I've had my neurostimulator now for a couple of years and with the support of an excellent Doctor and St Jude rep, get 100% pain relief.

However, a few weeks ago at the gym, got a tingling sensation across my back and on checking, I have a broken lead which will need to be replaced, which is a bit of a nuisance. The lead's turned off so no more tingling, but occasionally when I twist, I feel like I'm being stabbed, which I guess is where the lead has broken.

Has anyone else had a broken stimulator lead? What did it feel like to you?

Thanks...David

Hi David, I've had a few damaged leads, though never one completely broken through. Most of my problems have been associated more with changes in stim pattern - ranging from unpleasant/painful tingling through to pretty brutal burning/stabbing at one stage when my lead had pulled out of the epidural space (so was the surrounding tissue in my back being 'stimulated', rather than nerve as is intended). I havent really had what you're describing - but all my actual lead damage has been pretty close to the tip. Only thing even close that I've experienced has been from torn scar tissue where the leads are channeled through, and round one of the anchors - I guess for similar reason.

Have you got a timeline on getting the lead replaced?

Laura
