I have chronic TMJ with ear issues. The easiest way to describe the pain is like having a severe migraine 24/7/52.

I was diagnosed 25+ years ago. (There is an intro post in the general/introduce yourself thread.)

I struggle daily just to get through the day. Becuase my issue is jaw, it has affected my ears. Which has progressively gotten worse.

It is very painful for anything that contacts the ears, like talking on a phone, ear phones etc etc.
My ears are increadibly sensitive to air pressure changes, and years ago was told to avoid high speed elevators and to never fly.
More recenty, last 4-5 years it has progressively gotten worse to the point that now in air conditoining I feint. Aircon has always been an issue and would make my ears bang. The feinting is new over the last 18 months or so.

Once The ears start to bang. (The best way I can describe this, its like when you hold your breath, pinch your nose and 'breathe' out. Except it is a continuous, repitive, banging deep inside the ear. It is both painful and off putting. ) I have max of 5 minutes to get outside, or I will end up unconcious on the floor. Once outside, the threat of feinting will pass, but the pain and so forth continues.

I see my doc tomorrow to discuss my meds, and long term options. I have a referral to an ear specialist, as I have had many times before (expect to be told the same thing, its due to your jaw, nothing we can do).

Does anyone else have ear/jaw issues that maybe have tried something I haven't?
My current Meds - Pandaine Forte x2 daily, panadol, Temaze (for sleep) .
I am allergic to Tramadol, Asprin, Fentanil. Want to stay clear of Endone and the like.

Am considering adding Diazapam to the mix , but I don't think that will be long term solution.
I also practice relaxation, mediataion, heat therepies. Self facial massage (as taught by a physio).

Any ideas welcome.
Thank You.

Hi Mango,
Have you been to an Ear nose and throat surgeon an orthodontist or a macilo facial surgeon you probably have but it could be worth a shot as they can perform wonders and what they are able to do is changing all the time.
I don't know of anything else that could possibly help maybe see your doc and ask if you can take any more medication that what you are already taking

Hi Johnno,

Thanks for replying, I appreciate it greatly.

Yeah done all that, many, many times over. Admittedly not in the last 9 years or so, so maybe time to touch base again, see if there has been a breakthru or new technique or something. Problem is, all the specialists are in Melbourne. Getting to Melbourne is a not easy task.

For now the doc has changed tack a little, so I wll see how that goes.
