Hi guys, so I saw my GP, and she's decided to take me off Panadeine Forte and Lyrica, and put me on Targin. Who's been on this?

I'm also on a waiting list to see a specialist at a hospital. So that'll be free!

Hi Quantum, I have been on 20mg Targin morning and night for quite a while now but I was still in a lot of pain so my doctor prescribed me Lyrica which has taken the edge off, thank goodness. Did she say why she stopped the Lyrica?
I found Targin is a lot better than the likes of MS Contin etc; for me anyway. The only problem I have found is that it seems to make me fidgetty especially at night while I'm trying to relax watching tv.

Hi Gayl,

I spoke to my GP yesterday, and I'm staying on Lyrica. The Targin has had a marginal effect on my pain. My pain levels have probably been the same, or worse. I've had a hectic week of constant commuting, and I think it's caused a lot of microinjuries. I thought this medication would be a godsend, but I'm getting barely any relief. I'm only on 5mg once a day. Maybe it's too low?

Hi Targin is Oxycontin but with the reduced side effect of constipation. Its a very efficient pain killer.I only take 10 mg twice a day for chronic back pain, be careful as its addictive,my pain increased so went up to 20mg but no difference so dropped back to 10mg again.
Im also on Lyrica but it makes me so tired .

I often wonder why there are always consequences and side effects with painkillers ?

Hi Brendo,

Sorry I haven't commented, I've been busy with exams. I have IBS, so talking about BMs don't bother me at all. I haven't had diarrhoea, but I have had constipation after going up to 5mg twice a day. I also take Panadeine Extra for breakthrough pain. It helps a little bit, but that extra dose of Targin has helped a lot.

This is the second time that I've heard that someone changing from OxyContin to Targin, has had diarrhoea. I think the Naloxone may be affecting receptors in your bowels, that are used to the Oxycodone slowing it down. That's basically what Imodium does.

Anyway, I've been doing reasonably with Targin. Today I had more back problems than usual, so I've been bed bound up until a few hours ago.

I'm sorry to hear that. I wonder if the Naloxone is effecting how effective it is. I don't know what your OxyContin dose is. I'm on a total of 10mg a day. Maybe it needs to be a little higher. Having said that, I really want to try and stay on a lower dose for as long as possible. As I get older, things'll probably get worse, so I want to have the opportunity to increase it later, if necessary. The problem with these painkillers, is that they lose their strength over time.
